There are many reasons that writing skills are important in the business world. Well-written communications help save time, and good writing adds to the credibility of the writer and reflects positively on an organization’s image. An organization’s sales brochures and other advertising materials must be written effectively. Professional quality writing improves productivity and the ability of all functional areas to work together, particularly in an increasingly global workplace where collaboration is the norm. When English is not the native language, writing skills depend upon one’s knowledge of using the rules (grammar) in appropriate expressing of thinking and views (translation) in written form (composition). Careful writers and professionals should know the appropriate use of Verbs and Verbals [Finite Verbs, Verbals (Non-finite Verb forms: infinitives, participles and gerunds) and Liking Verbs such as look, feel, seem, become and grow] in their writing.
